HEX Game

Game Board

HEX - Polypad - Mathigon
Virtual Manipulatives for Mathematics Classrooms: polygons, number and algebra tiles, fraction bars, tangram, pentominoes, and more.

Mathematician and poet Piet Hein created Hex in 1942 and John Nash also independently created the game in 1948.

The aim of the game is connecting the opposite sides of the board.

  • Each player is assigned a pair of opposite sides of the board (Red or Blue) which they try to connect by taking turns coloring the grey hexagons of their color.
  • Once colored, the hexagons are unable to be recolored or removed.
  • A player wins when they successfully connect their sides together through a chain of adjacent colored hexagons.
